FAQs

The following questions may help you decide whether you are in an abusive relationship.


Does your partner ever...


  • hit, kick, shove or injure you?
  • use weapons/objects against you or threaten to do so?
  • force or coerce you to engage in unwanted sexual acts?
  • threaten to hurt you or others, have you deported, disclose your sexual orientation or other personal information?
  • control what you do and whom you see in a way that interferes with your work, education or other personal activities?
  • use technology to track, monitor or frighten you?
  • steal or destroy your belongings?
  • constantly criticize you, call you names or put you down? make you feel afraid?
  • deny your basic needs such as food, housing, clothing, or medical and physical assistance?


If you answered “yes” to any of the above, please know that help is available.


Sexual violence means that someone forces or manipulates someone else into unwanted sexual activity without their consent. Reasons someone might not consent include fear, age, illness, disability, and/or influence of alcohol or other drugs. Anyone can experience sexual violence including: children, teens, adults, and elders. Those who sexually abuse can be acquaintances, family members, trusted individuals or strangers. 


Forms of sexual violence include:

  • Rape or sexual assault
  • Child sexual assault and incest
  • Intimate partner sexual assault
  • Unwanted sexual contact/touching 
  • Sexual harassment
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Showing one’s genitals or naked body to other(s) without consent
  • Masturbating in public
  • Watching someone in a private act without their knowledge or permission 


Selah Place of Oregon County provides a temporary safe shelter to women, and their children who are escaping domestic or sexual violence. Our shelter is a safe place to recover and "pause"  and empower survivors to rebuild independent lives.
Selah Place of Oregon County provides essentials, free of charge, including meals and personal hygiene needs.


Our Shelter Services include:

  • Caring advocates that can help you create a safety plan (link to plan), find needed resources, discuss your need for shelter, or just talk
  • Emergency Shelter
  • Shelter resident support (case management)
  • Support groups and life skills classes
  • Safe at Home application assistance
  • Legal advocacy and assistance with Orders of Protection (restraining orders)
  • On-site counseling services: legal, addiction, trauma
  • Referrals to other community resources


When you enter our shelter, we will provide basic needs such as bedding, toiletries, food and clothing if needed.  You may bring some personal belongings, however we are limited on space and cannot provide storage.  So we ask that you only bring what you need into the shelter.  You will have your own private room.  We have a kitchen, 2 bathrooms , laundry room and a sunroom with tv and a small play area for children that is shared by all residents.
